Build an Agentic App
Add Agents and MCP servers to an app version so Procore AI can reach out to your external system.
Overview
The Agentic capability is in closed beta. It’s available to Marketplace Partners and enabled per app. Contact the Marketplace team at [email protected] to request access for an app.
The Agentic capability lets Procore AI reach out to your external system. Procore AI is powered by Datagrid, a Procore Company.
Agentic has two components. Add either or both:
- MCPs — an external Model Context Protocol (MCP) server you host. Procore AI calls its Tools to answer customer questions with your data.
- Agents — an Agent in Procore AI that works across Procore data and your Tools. It can propose changes, such as updating an RFI or drafting a Submittal, and the customer approves each one before anything is written.
For the opposite direction, where your own system calls in to Procore AI, see Agentic APIs.
Customer Requirements
Agentic requires Procore AI Pro or Enterprise. Customers on other plans can install your app and use its other capabilities, but not Agentic.
The customer pays for every run. Each Agent run draws on the customer’s Procore AI credits, and their administrators see the usage under your app’s name. Fewer Tool calls per run cost them less.
Create a Version and Add Components
- Open your app in the Developer Portal and select Create Version.
- Under Components, select Edit Components.
- In the Agentic group, select MCPs, Agents, or both. If the dialog has no Agentic group, the app isn’t enabled for the beta yet. You can add Data Connector and Embedded components in the same dialog.
- Select Save.
A new version starts as a copy of your latest one, with a suggested version number you can edit. Each component appears in the Components list with a Manage button.
Manage opens the configuration form for a new component. For a component carried over from a previous version, it shows the current settings; select Edit Configuration to change them.
Configure Your MCP Servers
Select Manage on the MCPs row, then Add MCP, and enter:
- Name — the server’s display name.
- Server URL — your server’s HTTPS endpoint.
Select Save Configuration. A version can declare up to five MCP servers.
Your server must use a redirect-based sign-in. Datagrid connects with the OAuth 2.0 authorization code grant, so the customer signs in to your system in their own browser. Manually entered credentials and static bearer tokens aren’t supported.
You don’t list your Tools. Procore calls tools/list on your server when a customer installs your app, so the customer gets the Tools your server advertises at that moment.
Configure Your Agents
Configure your MCP servers first. Connected MCP Servers lists only the servers already on this version.
Select Manage on the Agents row, then Add Agent. Three fields are required:
- Name — up to 255 characters.
- Description — what the Agent does, up to 1,000 characters.
- System Prompt — the Agent’s role, what it may propose, and the rules it follows.
Four are optional:
- Custom Prompt — the style and format of responses.
- Planning Prompt — how the Agent breaks down a task.
- Connected MCP Servers — which of this version’s servers the Agent uses.
- Tools — the Procore AI Tools the Agent can use. These are separate from your MCP server’s Tools.
Select Save Configuration. A version can declare up to five Agents.
| Prompt | Use it for | Length |
|---|---|---|
| System Prompt | The Agent’s role, and the rules that always hold | Short and stable |
| Planning Prompt | The steps to follow, and which Tools and data to use | Brief and explicit |
| Custom Prompt | How the answer looks — format, tone, and next steps | As detailed as you need |
Write the workflow you want, not a list of prohibitions. See Design a High-Quality Agent.
Save and Promote the Version
Procore AI is not available in the Developer Sandbox. A sandbox install confirms the version carries the right components. It can’t test Agent behavior.
Return to the Create Version screen, add any Post-Installation Instructions, and select Save Version.
Arrange end-to-end testing with the Marketplace team before customers use an agentic version. Then promote it. See Promote a Version to Production.
